BRIGHTON, Mass. — The Notre Dame baseball team had a rough night at the plate and dropped the series-opener to Boston College 10-1 Thursday night at Harrington Athletics Village.
The Eagles scored in the opening two innings to build an early lead and the Irish could not mount a comeback at the plate as the game went on.
How It Happened
The Eagles struck first in the opening inning after sending across two runs. With runners on second and third, Cunningham hit a weak ball up the first base line and Junker went home with the throw that got away and went all the way to the backstop. Both runs scored on the play but that was the only damage in the first.
Boston College continued the early inning success in the second inning. The Eagles strung together a few hits and scored three more runs to build a 5-0 lead after the first two innings.
Anthony Holubecki came on in relief and settled things down for the Irish in the middle innings. He did not allow a run in his first three innings and kept the Irish within striking distance.
The Irish got on the board in the top of the sixth and Jared Miller got it started with a single to lead off the inning. He moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt and tagged to third on a fly out to right. Jake Singer stepped to the plate and crushed a double into the gap in left center and Miller scored easily.
Boston College broke the game open in the next inning. After a leadoff double, the Eagles scored one on an RBI single and followed it up with a two-run homer run and Boston College led 8-1 after the sixth.
Game Notes
- Jake Singer extended his RBI streak to three games after the double in the sixth that scored Jared Miller from third.
- Anthony Holubecki tossed a career high four inning against BC. His previous has was 3.1 against Florida State in 2018.
