Irish Earn First ACC Victory in 5-2 Win Over Virginia Tech

NOTRE DAME, Indiana —  The Notre Dame Women’s Tennis team earned its first ACC victory of the season Sunday afternoon in a 5-2 win over Virginia Tech at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

“Overall, a solid weekend for our program to kick-off ACC competitions,” Coach Silverio said. “We will be ready  to work this coming week!”

How It Happened

After dropping the first doubles matches, Notre Dame rebounded to secure two doubles victories to clinch the first point of the competition. Cameron Corse and Page Freeman earned the first Irish win of the day, defeating Shene Disbergen and Natalie Novotna, 6-1. Julia Lilien and Zoe Spence battled, taking Erika Cheng and Nina Sorkin to a tiebreaker. The Irish were victorious, earning a 7-6 (5) win to earn the doubles point.

Cameron Corse won her fourth match of the weekend, taking the first singles victory of the day in a 6-0, 6-1 win.

Julia Lilien defeated Shene Disbergen in a convincing, 6-2, 6-2 fashion to win a second Irish singles point. Then, Page Freeman earned the Irish win over Elizabet Danailova, 6-3, 6-3, before Zoe Spence earned the final Irish win of the afternoon, defeating Nika Kozar  7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
