Irish Earn Five USFCA National Awards

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame fencing program won five United States Fencing Coaches Association 2025 Collegiate Awards following the 2024-25 campaign. The Fighting Irish finished as the NCAA champions for the 14th time in program history and fourth title in the last five seasons.

Two Notre Dame fencers earned Fencer of the Year honors in each category on both the men’s and women’s sides.

Chase Emmer was selected as the Men’s Foil Athlete of the Year and Ahmed Hesham took home Men’s Sabre Athlete of the Year honors. On the women’s side Eszter Muhari earned Women’s Epee Athlete of the Year accolades and Magda Skarbonkiewicz was named the Women’s Sabre Athlete of the Year.

Fighting Irish head coach Gia Kvaratskhelia also received recognition, as he was named the Men’s Coach of the Year, marking the fourth time since 2021 that he has earned the achievement.

Muhari, Skarbonkiewicz and Emmer each won individual national titles at the NCAA Championships in March and Hesham was the top seed after the round robin portion of competition.
