The last time Notre Dame (20-6, 10-5) faced Boston College (11-17, 3-12), the Irish notched a 50-point victory. But Sunday won’t be the same game, as the Irish head to Chestnut Hill for one final ACC regular season road game.
Notre Dame has struggled with consistency this season, leading Karen and Kevin Keyes Family Head Coach Niele Ivey to focus heavily on offense since the loss to NC State. So far, the Irish have responded with 70 points at Cameron Indoor Stadium and 74 on Thursday night against Clemson. Five players were in double-figures in that game.
While Notre Dame’s freshman phenom Hannah Hidalgo’s scoring has dropped off, she has continued to stuff the stat sheet across other categories. Maddy Westbeld and Sonia Citron have stepped up as well. Overall on the year, Hidalgo ranks second in the conference with a 35.5 PAR. Westbeld is 11th (24.9) and Citron is 12th (23.8). Notre Dame is the only team with three top-15 players in that category.
The first time out against Boston College, Hidalgo had 27 points and 10 boards, while Westbeld had 15 and 15. Citron had 11 points, although it was just her second game back from her knee injury.
As far as the Eagles go, Dontavia Waggoner was Boston College’s leading scorer when they last faced Notre Dame (12). She also had 4 steals and 6 rebounds. Waggoner is posting 3 steals per game, which ranks second in the ACC this year behind Hidalgo.
Sunday’s game tips off at noon on the ACC Network. Notre Dame is 29-9 all-time against Boston College and 11-7 when the Eagles host.
