CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Notre Dame softball team (25-28, 11-13 ACC) fell in Wednesday’s first round of the ACC Softball Championships, dropping game one of the tournament 13-3 to Georgia Tech in five innings.
After Ava Zachary scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the fourth inning for the first Irish run, Avery Houlihan delivered a two-run double into the gap in left-center field to bring home Ashley Marietta and Sydny Poeck.
In their final at bats in Irish uniforms, Mickey Winchell and Paige Cowley both lined a base hits into right field. It was the 154th career hit for Winchell in her 164th and final game for Notre Dame.
Both Irish All-ACC freshman Lily Hagan and Zachary singled in today’s game, closing out remarkable freshman campaigns for the dominant duo.
Micaela Kastor made her 69th and final start in the circle in a Notre Dame uniform. The senior right hander finished with 380 strikeouts over her four-year career.
