SYRACUSE, New York — The Notre Dame Women’s Tennis team opened a full weekend of competition with a hard-fought, 4-3 decision to Syracuse.
How It Happened
The Irish opened play by clinching the doubles point behind two early victories. Cameron Corse and Page Freeman teamed up to defeat Syracuse’s Yusupova and Erman, 6-3. Then Zoe Spence and Julia Lilien earned a victory against Golubovskaya and Treshcheva to clinch the first Irish point of the day.
In singles play, Cameron Corse clinched an Irish point with her 6-1, 6-3 decision over Yusupova. Page Freeman would also earn a point on the day with her 6-4, 7-5 win over Hansen.
The match would be decided by Julia Lilien’s matchup with Kozyreva. Lilien dropped the first set, 6-4, and rebounded to capture a 7-6 victory and force a decisive third set. In the third, Lilien fell behind, 2-0, and battled back to come within a point, 3-2. Then, Kozyreva secured the Orange victory with a 6-4 third-set win.
