DURHAM, N.C. — The Notre Dame Fighting Irish held the No. 3 Duke Blue Devils to a season-low four shots over the 90 minutes of play but the hosts managed to come away with a 2-0 win at Koskinen Stadium on Friday evening.
The Irish doubled the undefeated Blue Devils in shots and corners in the contest, holding an 8-4 advantage in shots and 6-3 in corners.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Irish and Blue Devils played a cagey first half, totaling just three shots between the two sides. However, the hosts scored the opener off a header from Shakur Mohammed in the 25th minute to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Notre Dame controlled play in the second half, dominating possession and putting pressure on the Duke defense.
The Irish were unable to capitalize and the Blue Devils managed to double their lead in the 82nd minute on just their first shot in the second half to make it a 2-0 contest.
Notre Dame kept pushing forward but didn’t find the back of the net as the game ended in a 2-9 decision in favor of Duke.

“We are certainly not happy about the result but I am proud of the attitude and effort of the team. Credit to Duke they were clinical with their chances and are #3 for a reason. We have to regroup and recover quickly as we have a big match against UIC coming up quickly.”
