NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Caroline Meuth led the way for the Irish with nine kills and five blocks, but Notre Dame fell to #1 Louisville on Monday night in Purcell Pavilion.
Zoe Nunez dished out 20 assists in three sets. Lindsey Miller and Aubrey Hamilton tallied six kills and four kills, respectively.
Hattie Monson also led the Irish with 10 digs while Nunez recorded eight and Meuth tallied six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
Both the Irish and Cardinals opened the first set fighting as back and forth play locked the teams at nine apiece.
Notre Dame then used a 5-1 run, which included kills from Meuth and Miller, to get within one at 15-14. Nunez helped the Irish along with eight assists in just the first set with four digs. The Cardinals continued their lead when the next eight points put them ahead to take the frame 25-18.
Second Set
A 5-0 run, including kills from Sammi Lockwood and Phyona Schrader, from the Irish put them ahead by one at 10-9 causing Louisville to take a timeout.
Kills from Meuth and Miller would spark the Irish scoring eight more points out of a Notre Dame timeout, but ultimately Louisville would take nine of the next points taking the set 25-18.
Third Set
Three straight points, including a kill from Aubrey Hamilton, would immediately put the Irish up.
After a 16-0 run from Louisville, the Irish had kills from Meuth and Schrader to spark the offense. Later a 7-1 run from the Irish would put them at 22-16. Louisville ultimately took the set at 25-18.
