CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Irish fell 7-2 in the second game of the series at Boston College to make it an even 1-1 heading into the final game tonight. The Irish complete the series at Fenway Park at 7 PM this evening in Boston College’s 11th Annual ALS Awareness Game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
While the Eagles took a 1-0 lead after the first, the Irish offense was sparked on a solo homer to left center from outfielder Brady Gumpf. He recorded his second home run of the year to tie it up at 1-1 in the second inning.
A four-run inning for the Eagles lifted Boston College to a 5-1 edge over the Irish, but back-to-back two baggers from Zack Pajzner and Carter Putz in the fourth closed the gap to three at 5-2 heading into the bottom frame. The Eagles would tack on runs in the fourth and eighth to take home game two 7-2.
The Irish finished with eight hits and were led by Carter Putz who finished 2-4 at the plate with one RBI. Zack Prajzner, DM Jefferson, and Putz each recorded doubles, while Gumpf finished with one home run.
Blake Hely started on the mound for the Irish as he pitched 4.2 innings, striking out four batters and allowing six runs on seven hits. He was relieved by Ricky Reeth, who threw 3.1 innings and struck out three batters, allowing one run and just two hits.
