SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame Fighting Irish fell to North Carolina in Purcell Pavilion on Friday, Nov. 4 in three sets (19-25, 16-25, 22-25 ). The Irish drop to 9-14 on the season as they prepare for NC State on Sunday, Nov. 6 at home.
The Irish were led by Lucy Trump who tallied 10 kills and eight digs, followed by Paris Thompson who finished with nine kills. Phyona Schrader recorded 24 digs, while Hattie Monson finished with 10 digs for the Irish.
The Irish trailed early in set one, but a kill from Paris Thompson made it an even 11-11. UNC claimed a 23-15 lead and a 4-0 run from the Irish closed the gap to four, but the Tar Heels would take set one 25-19. Notre Dame was slow to get started in set two and the Tar Heels came out posting a 14-7 advantage. Despite Notre Dame’s offensive efforts, UNC would take the 2-0 advantage heading into set three.
The Irish played some of their best volleyball of the night in set three as they claimed a 7-5 lead over the Tar Heels. It was back and forth action from the the Irish and Tar Heels until it became an even set at 15-15. UNC took the lead again at 22-17, but Notre Dame closed the gap to three at 23-20 and two at 24-22 before the Tar Heels claimed the final set 25-22.

- The Irish will host NC State at 12:00 p.m. at Purcell Pavilion on Sunday, Nov. 6 with an “Irish Wear Green” theme.
- Senior night will take place after the match on Friday, Nov. 11 as Notre Dame hosts Florida State.
