Irish Fall to Two Ranked Opponents on Southern Road Swing

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — The Notre Dame Men’s Tennis team fell to two top-25 teams on the road this weekend in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Lexington, Kentucky.

Friday, the Irish battled the No. 10 Volunteers, ultimately falling, 7-0. In doubles competition, Richard Ciamarra and Matt Gamble earned the victory, 7-5, but it wasn’t enough as the Vols captured the doubles point. Ciamarra, the sixth-ranked singles player in the country, lost a hard-fought match to Johannus Monday, who prevailed, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). 

In Sunday’s action in Lexington, the Irish battled No. 21 Kentucky, but fell to the Wildcats, 7-0. In a battle of top-50 players, Ciamarra fell to No. 45 Liam Draxl, 6-4, 6-0. The Wildcats also earned the sweep on the doubles side, knocking off the first two Irish duos to clinch the doubles point.
