NOTRE DAME, Indiana — The Notre Dame Women’s Tennis team fell to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in their final regular-season match on Sunday afternoon. Weather in the area caused the match to be started outside on the Courtney Tennis Courts and finished in The Eck Tennis Pavilion halfway through singles play.
The Irish took the doubles point to grab an early lead as Julia Lilien and Ally Bojczuk won over Gia Cohen and Ava Hrastar at the two spot by a score of 6-4. Julia Andreach and Yashna Yellayi then clinched the point with a 7-5 victory over Monika Dedaj and Carol Lee at three doubles. Cameron Corse and Page Freeman fell to Kenya Jones and Vicky Flores, 5-7.
Seniors Ally Bojczuk and Cameron Corse made their last regular season match one to remember. Bojczuk came ready to play on senior day, winning her singles match in dominant fashion over Gia Cohen in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, to earn the first singles point for the Irish. Cameron Corse dropped the first set to Kenya Jones, 1-6. She then fought back to win an intense second set 7-6 by a tiebreaker score of 10-8, but ultimately fell in the third, 1-6.
Julia Lilien fell to Carol Lee at four singles, 4-6, 2-6, allowing the Yellow Jackets to find their first point of the match. The remaining four matches on the court including Corse on court 1 went the distance, each taking three sets to decide. Page Freeman fought off a match point in her third set to stay alive, but lost to Vicky Flores in the end, 6-2, 3-6, 5-7.
With Jones’ win over Corse at the one position, the Yellow Jackets took a 3-2 lead in the match. They would go on to clinch the match on Mahak Jain’s three-set victory over Julia Andreach at five singles. Yellayi and Garcia Gross already well into their third set, they would finish the match, with Yellayi ultimately taking down her opponent, 7-6, 3-6, 6-2.
Seniors Cameron Corse and Ally Bojczuk were honored by the team and limited spectators outdoors in a senior day celebration before the match began.
