Irish Fencing Keeps On Rolling In North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Notre Dame fencing programs continued their dominant stretch this past weekend in North Carolina, as the men’s and women’s teams combined to go 11-0, including six ranked wins. The Irish men improved to 27-3 after six wins at the Beguinet Classic in Durham while the women are 28-1 following five wins at the Miller Invitational.

The top-ranked men’s team was 6-0, winning four ranked matchups:

#1 Notre Dame 19, John Hopkins 8

#1 Notre Dame 15, #8 Duke 12

#1 Notre Dame 18, #13 NYU 9

#1 Notre Dame 19, #11 Boston College 8

#1 Notre Dame 18, Brandeis 9

#1 Notre Dame 22, #9 Penn State 5

The second-ranked women’s team was 5-0, winning two ranked matchups:

#2 Notre Dame 20, Brandeis 7

#2 Notre Dame 20, #5 Duke 7

#2 Notre Dame 24, #10 Penn State 3

#2 Notre Dame 19, Johns Hopkins 8

#2 Notre Dame 19, Boston College 8

In men’s epee, Christopher Chong posted a 14-4 record while Kenty Iyoki posted a 13-5 record. In foil, both Dominic Joseph and Nick Rusadze each collected 10 wins. Grant Dodrill paced the sabre team with a 13-5 record.

On the women’s side, both Sedna Gandhi and Zoe Kim logged 11-4 records in epee while Victoria Pevzner went 10-1 in foil. In sabre, Chelsea Delsoin was 13-2 while Magda Skarbonkiewicz was a perfect 7-0 in limited action.

The Irish will rest up before heading back to North Carolina for the ACC Championships on February 21-22.
