Irish Finish 8th at Brier’s Creek Invitational

Brier’s Creek, S.C. – The Fighting Irish women’s golf team finished in a tie for eighth place in South Carolina earlier this week at the Briar’s Creek Invitational. After a weather interruption on day one of competition cut the second round, Notre Dame posted round scores of 292 (+4) and 295 (+7) to sign a final team score card of 587 (+11) after 36 holes.

Junior Alex Lapple led the Irish in Brier’s Creek, ending with a final standing tied for 16th with an overall score of 144 (E). Lapple wrapped up her first round with a birdie on the 16th hole to post a 72 (E) across the first round. She then closed out her tournament with another even-par score of 72 to finish the two-day event at par. In round two the junior recorded four birdies, two each on the front and back nine to end the tournament.

Jordan Levitt finished second for Notre Dame team, tallying a scorecard of 146 (+2) to earn a finish tied for 28th in the tournament. The freshman from Bedford, New York tallied a pair of birdies in her first round before posting a 73 (+1) on the score card. Levitt would add two more birdies in the tournament in the second and final round to post an identical score to her first 18 holes with a 73 (+1).

Maddy Bante followed Jordan for the Irish with a total score of 148 (+4) to end tied for 42nd overall. The sophomore was able to notch four birdies in the initial round of 18 to post a 73 (+1) score. Her second round added two more birdie opportunities before etching a 75 (+3) in the books through 36 holes in South Carolina.

Bridget Wilkie ended the consolidated tournament with a 149 (+5) to finish tied for 50th. The sophomore opened the tournament posting a score of 74 (+2) with a trio of birdies across the first round. Wilkie recorded three more in the final round of play before ending the event with a mark of 75 (+3).

Sawyer Brockstedt rounded out the lineup for Notre Dame with a total tournament score of 166 (+22). Across the two rounds in South Carolina, Brockstedt posted identical scores of 83 (+11)  to close out the tournament. 

The Irish return to the links on April 5-6 for some split action with the YSU Spring Invitational in Warren, Ohio hosted by Youngstown State University and the Maryland Terps Invite in College Park, Maryland hosted by the University of Maryland.
