GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After starting a day earlier due to inclement weather conditions, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish wrapped up play with a 10th place finish at the Gator Invitational March 1-2, hosted by the Florida Gators at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
“Chloe and Lauren showed their senior leadership and played well on a tough course this weekend, each having 2 rounds of par or better,” said head coach Caroline Powers Ellis.
The Irish shot a collective score of 880 (+40) with Lauren Beaudreau and Chloe Schiavone leading the way as each finished T15 and shot 210 (+3) individually.
While Beaudreau had a bit of a slower start, shooting a 75 in round one, the graduate student shot an even 70 in round two and a 68 (-2) in round three. Beaudreau recorded six birdies across her three rounds.
Schiavone had a strong performance in rounds one and two, recording a score of 69 (-1) in each round, wrapping up round three with a score of 75 (+5). The senior finished with seven birdies and an eagle.
“The Gators Invitational was a week of learning lessons for us,” said head coach Caroline Powers Ellis. “After a shortened practice round due to weather, we started round one way too tentatively. We were able to right the ship as the day went on, but let far too many strokes get away in that first round. We have a lot to work on before we tee it up on spring break at the Tulane Classic, but I am confident our team will do what it takes to learn and grow from each round and be better for the next one,” said Powers Ellis.
