Irish Finish Up Competition In The Big Ten Invitational

The University of Notre Dame rowing capped a strong weekend of competition at the Big Ten Invitational on Harsha Lake in Bethel, Ohio, on Sunday morning. Facing No. 9, Tennessee, No. 11 Rutgers and No. 17 Minnesota (Pocock/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association rankings) throughout the day, the effort was highlighted by a victory from the Second Varsity Eight and second-place finishes from the Varsity Four, Third Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight.

“I thought we raced well today, we just came up short,” head coach Martin Stone said.

“The 2V had a great race and showed improvement from two weeks ago. The 1V raced really hard. We are disappointed in the result but not the effort. Most of all this weekend, we learned what we need to adjust for next weekend and the ACC Championship.

“We are grateful for the opportunity and the competition at the Big Ten Invitational. Rutgers and the conference put together the strongest regatta of the season and we won’t see that type of competition again until the NCAA Championship.”

The Irish will face a quick turnaround and head to Austin, Texas, next weekend for another challenge in the Longhorn Invitational on April 24.
