Irish Fourth After Two Days Of Competition At Ohio State Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Through two days of action at the Ohio State Invite at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, the Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving team sits in fourth place among the 12-team field after Saturday evening’s final heat. The Irish (4-1) point total stands at 296 behind the host Buckeyes (1,028), Minnesota (529) and West Virginia (309).

Petar Petrovic set a school record in the 100 back (48.96), while also turning in an NCAA B-cut with his third-place finish.

Action resumes Sunday (Dec. 6) for the third and final day of the invite. Live stats will be available at UND.com.

200 Freestyle Relay: John Lytle posted the second fastest lead-off split of the night (20.56) to help kickstart the Irish to an eventual sixth-place finish (1:22.09) … Kevin Overholt recorded the fastest split (20.30) of the team … Andrew Hoffman and Josh Nosal helped bring home the relay just ahead of the Irish B-squad of Marshall Sherman, Tommy Van Volkenburg, Kevin Rahill and David Anderson (1:23.63).

500 Freestyle: MacKenzie LeBlanc was the top performing Irish swimmer in the distance event and brought home top honors from the C-final heat to take 17th overall (4:31.14) … he was chased closely by Michael Sullivan (4:31.29).

200 Individual Medley: Bill Bass powered home on the freestyle portion of the race to secure the win in the consolation finals for ninth place (1:50.79) and secure points for the Irish.

50 Freestyle: Lytle again flashed some speed in the splash and dash, bringing home a sixth-place finish (20.69) in a quick field … Overholt recorded points for the Irish in 16th-place (21.21).

400 Medley Relay: The Irish finished the first night of action in the same manner they started, garnering sixth-place points in the distance medley team event … Petar Petrovic (49.06), Chris Johnson (56.02), Bass (48.96) and Lytle (44.42) combined to register a time of 3:18.46, less than a second off of the provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Championships.

1-meter Diving: Wesley Villaflor took 11th place with a score of 277.60.

200 Medley Relay: Petrovic, Johnson, LeBlanc and Lytle were sixth overall in 1:30.16.

400 Individual Medley: Sullivan went through the course in 3:57.94 for sixth place, while Andrew Deters was next in line for Notre Dame with a 13th-place 4:02.32.

100 Butterfly: LeBlanc (50.32) and Colin Francesco (50.83) notched top-20 finishes for the Irish, placing 13th and 15th, respectively.

200 Freestyle: Lytle went 1:39.66 for eighth overall … Hoffman capped off the night with a 14th-place performance in 1:40.66.

100 Breaststroke: Brian Maloy (56.97) was the fastest Irish swimmer in the event and placed 10th … Johnson was 14th in 57.52.

100 Backstroke: Petrovic record an NCAA B-cut performance by rallying with a 48.96 … he was third overall … Petrovic improved upon his 49.26 in the prelims.

800 Freestyle Relay: Placing eighth was the quartet of Nosal, Bass, McGinley and Patrick Lloyd … the squad touched in at 6:47.12.

3-meter Diving: Villaflor tacked on a 15th-place showing with 289.15 points … Geary just missed racking points, finishing in 17th with a 275.90.
