The Irish women’s golf team shot a 298 in the second round of the 2009 BIG EAST Championship at the Lake Jovita Country Club to remain in second place. Notre Dame, Louisville and Cincinnati all to deal with soggy conditions on the back nine that included a rain delay in the late afternoon. The Irish gained four strokes on 36-hole leader Louisville, and now trail the Cardinals by 12 strokes entering the final round of play.

Senior captain Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute) shot Notre Dame’s best round of the day with a minus-one 71 to move into a tie for first. Her second round included five birdies as she shot the tournament’s only under-par mark in the second round. At plus-one, she is tied for first with Sara-Maude Juneau and Laura Anderson, both of Louisville.

Junior Annie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) took four strokes off of her first round score of 77 to turn in a second round 73, good for Notre Dame’s second best score of the day. She got off to a hot start, as she was minus two after three holes of play by virtue of carding birdies on the first and third holes. She is tied for eighth.

Freshman Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton) is in seventh place after turning in a second round plus-two 74. She birdied the par-five sixth (for the second consecutive day) and also birdied the 10th.

Sophomore So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Prep) and Junior Kristin Wetzel (Middletown, N.Y./Hilton Head Prep) each turned in par-eight 80’s to round out the Irish scoring.
