NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field teams travel to Louisville, Ky., Saturday (April 13), to participate in the four-team “Kentuckiana” Border Battle between the states of Indiana and Kentucky on the campus of the University of Louisville.

The Fighting Irish team up with Indiana University to take on the Cardinals and the University of Kentucky for the chance to earn interstate bragging rights. The state of Indiana searches for its third consecutive victory over the commonwealth since the meet first began in 2010.

The men’s javelin will get action underway beginning at 10:30 a.m. while the men’s 4x400m relay will wrap up the contest at 6:00 p.m.

Notre Dame and the Hoosiers swept with team victories on both the men’s (113-81) and women’s (102.50-99.50) side last year as the Irish tallied up a total of nine event victories. Returnees Andrew Brock (shot put), McKinzie Schulz (3,000m steeplechase), Rebecca Tracy (800m), Jade Barber (100m) and Megan Yanik (400mH) will seek to repeat as event winners.

The Irish are coming off a total of 36 top-10 finishes, 18 top-five finishes and six runner-up finishes last weekend at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. Eight student-athletes captured at least two top-ten finishes as Lauren Leniart led with a second-place (long jump) and third-place (triple jump) finish.

Notre Dame carries a strong national presence entering Saturday’s meet as Chris Giesting (400m-9th), Tracy (1,500m-5th/800m-9th) and Alexa Aragon (3,000 steeplechase-8th) each sit in the country’s top-10 in their respective event on the Track & Field Results Reporting System’s 2013 NCAA I Outdoor Qualifying List.

Tracy’s 9th place ranking in the 800m was earned after setting the school record with a time of 2:05.31 two weekends ago at the Stanford Invitational.

Following the Border Battle, Notre Dame will split travel to Walnut, Calif. for the Mt. SAC Relays (April 18-20) and Bloomington, Ind. for the Polytan Invitational (April 18-21).
