NOTRE DAME, Ind. — After a 1-0-1 weekend showing against New Hampshire, the Notre Dame Hockey team has been ranked 15th in the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls, which were released on Monday afternoon.
Junior goaltender Cal Petersen helped lead the Irish to a three-point weekend against the Wildcats, including a 31-save shutout in a 3-0 game two win on Saturday night. In the two games against one of the top-ranked offenses in college hockey, Petersen posted a 0.96 goals against average and a 9.66 save percentage (stopped 57 of the 59 shots he faced).
Saturday’s shutout marked Petersen’s fifth of the season, which is tied for the NCAA lead, and was the 10th of his Irish career. He made his 74th and 75th-consecutive starts in the Notre Dame net over the weekend, which ranks as the 10th-longest streak in the NCAA Division I records book.
Petersen and the Irish will play one game this weekend at No. 11/13 Boston College on Saturday, Jan. 28. It will be the second game in this season’s two-game Hockey East series, with Notre Dame previously posting a comeback win over the Eagles, 3-2, at the Compton Family Ice Arena (Dec. 10).
