WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Notre Dame women’s golf team battled among elite competition today in the first round of the Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall. After 18 holes, the Irish are currently in 12th place out of 18 teams with a score of 314, 26-over par on the Pete Dye designed layout.
Earlier in the day, Notre Dame stuck close to the top of the leaderboard in third place, behind Duke and Alabama, with junior Ashley Armstrong leading the pack in a tie for third place individually.
By day’s end, Alabama claimed the top spot with a three-under-par score of 285. Duke is in second, trailing by 10 strokes at 295, and South Carolina rounds out the top three with a score of 300.
Armstrong finished the day tied for 10th individually. She made par on 13 of her holes and added two birdies on the round, closing with a score of 74 (+2).
Senior Kristina Nhim, who at one point led the Irish with the lowest score, is currently tied for 39th individually. The senior also made par on 13 holes and carded one birdie for the day as part of a first round 78.
Sophomore Talia Campbell, who performed strongly at the Tar Heel Invitational two weeks ago, is tied for 60th place along with her teammates junior Kelli Oride and freshman Jordan Ferreira. All three finished the day with matching scores of 81. Oride made three birdies, the most of any Irish player for the round.
