Irish Land Three On All-ACC Team

DURHAM, N.C. — The Atlantic Coast Conference released its All-ACC Women’s Lacrosse Team, highlighted by three University of Notre Dame players, on Wednesday. Irish goalkeeper Samantha Giacolone was named to the First Team All-ACC, while midfielder Savannah Buchanan and defender Hannah Proctor received Second Team All-ACC honors. The ACC’s head coaches voted on two teams comprised of 16 players each.

Giacolone was named an honorable mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse prior to the start of the season. The Manorville, N.Y. native has started all 18 games for the Irish and currently ranks third all-time in school history for most career wins (32). Giacolone ranks first in the conference in save percentage (.473) and third in saves (130). She has had five games this season with double-digit saves and her season high of 15 came in the opener against No. 6 Boston College.

Proctor has been a stalwart on defense for the Irish this season. The Radnor, Pa. native started all 18 games and tallied 22 ground balls and tied a career high with 14 caused turnovers. Proctor and the Irish defense have held opponents to fewer than 10 goals in eight games this year and the Irish are 7-1 in those games. Proctor has tied a career high twice this year when she scooped up five ground balls against No. 5 North Carolina and No. 7 Northwestern.

Buchanan has continued to improve in her second season in the midfield for the Irish. Along with Giacolone and Proctor, she started all 18 games and is one of five Irish to score 20+ goals this season (23). She is second on the team in assists (16), draw controls (58), ground balls (36), and points (39) and third in caused turnovers (18). She tallied a career-high six points in the road win over Stetson and scooped up a career-high five ground balls last weekend against San Diego State. Buchanan was named a mid-season honorable mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse.

Giacolone and Proctor were each named to the Preseason All-ACC team, which featured 13 players.
