SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame softball team will look to flip the page tomorrow when the Irish face the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on Big Ten Network Plus.
Tomorrow’s game will be the sixth Big Ten team the Irish have faced this season (Penn State, UCLA, Ohio State, Indiana, Northwestern). Notre Dame plays seven total Big Ten teams this year (Oregon, April 28th).
Irish pitching continues to register strikeouts at an impressive rate. The 268 strikeouts by Notre Dame pitching is the second-most punch outs in the conference. Micaela Kastor leads the team with 87, while Kami Kamzik (73) and Brianne Weiss (66) are not too far behind.
The left side of the infield between Caroline O’Brien and Addison Amaral has emerged as a strength of the Irish lineup. Amaral continues to pace the team in multiple offensive categories, including hits, doubles, home runs and batting average while O’Brien is hitting .481 over her last 11 games with three doubles, a triple and eight walks.
Notre Dame leads the all-time series over Michigan State 12-1 and are 6-1 in East Lansing. Last year, the Irish beat the Spartans 4-2 at Melissa Cook Stadium. Notre Dame hasn’t lost to Michigan State since 1995.
