SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (AP) – Sherisha Hills is showing off an all-around game in her first season at Notre Dame.
The freshman scored 16 points as No. 7 Notre Dame defeated San Francisco 74-43 on Saturday to help the Irish (5-0) matched their best start in school history. Notre Dame also won its first five games in 1977-78 season.
“I try to come in and help out on defense,” she said. “Scoring is a big part, but I concentrate on defense.”
Notre Dame opened the second half with a 16-3 run to take a 42-23 lead. In that six-minute span, San Francisco was held without a field goal, and committed six turnovers.
“Sherisha not only makes plays, she makes big plays,” Notre Dame coach Muffet McGraw said. “She made key steals in the runs we had.”
Danielle Green and Niele Ivey each added 13 points and Sheila McMillen had 11 for the Irish. Brittany Lindhe led the Lady Dons (2-1) with 11 points, all in the first half.
“They have a nice combination of big physical size inside and good perimeter players,” San Francisco coach Bill Nepfel said of the Irish. “We could get inside, but it was hard to finish because they’re so big.”
