GREENSBORO, N.C. — The 2023-24 Irish men’s swimming and diving team is the best to ever do it for the Blue and Gold.
This week, 11th-ranked Notre Dame placed second at the 2024 ACC Championships, the highest finish in program history. In total, Notre Dame won four individual events and the 400 free relay. The Irish broke 12 school records — seven in individual swimming events, four in relays and one in the diving well. There were a total of 28 best times.
Chris Guiliano — who was named the Most Valuable Male Swimmer of the meet — continued to dominate with three goal medals in the 50 (18.70), 100 (40.62) and 200 free (1:31.16). He went a personal best time in the 50 in prelims as well (18.57). Guiliano set a conference record in the 100 and tied the conference record in the 200.
Sophomore Tommy Janton had a stellar meet as well, breaking his own school record in the 200 back (1:39.21) and winning his first ACC gold medal. Fellow sophomore Marcus Gentry notched a pair of top-8 finishes with a 45.57 100 back for fifth place and a 1:41.15 200 back for fifth place.
Continuing with the backstroke theme, Tanner Filion won the B final of the 100 back and set a school record of 44.99 along the way. He also took seventh in the 200 back (1:41.82) and went a best time in the 100 fly (45.68), taking 10th.
The other two program records broken were in the 200 IM and 100 fly. Dillon Edge broke a 2015 record in the 200 IM with a personal best of 1:43.63. He finished seventh overall. Abdelrahman Elarby went 45.03 in the 100 fly and finished fifth.
Notre Dame closed the meet on a high note, earning the gold medal in the 400 free relay. Guiliano, Filion, Janton and Elaraby smashed the previous program record and went 2:45.58. The other new relay records were:
- 200 free relay (1:15.59/fourth place) — Guiliano, Elaraby, Filion, Janton
