NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Andie Aldave, Savannah Buchanan, Samantha Lynch, Makenna Pearsall and Kathleen Roe with serve as team captains for the Irish women’s lacrosse program in 2020, head coach Christine Halfpenny announced on Saturday (Jan. 18).
“Our team spoke loud and clear in choosing this year’s leadership group,” said Halfpenny. “Andie, Savannah, Sam, Makenna, and Kathleen have all of the necessary characteristics to motivate and inspire their teammates while also leading by example both on-and-off the field.”
ABOUT ALDAVE
Aldave broke her own single-season program record with 152 draw controls in 2019 en route to being named a First Team IWLCA All-American. The sophomore ranked sixth in the country with an average of eight draw controls per game, and helped the Irish earn a draw control percentage of 63.6%, which was second in the nation. Aldave also added a career-high 47 goals and 67 points in 19 games. A First Team All-ACC selection and Tewaaraton Award nominee, Aldave collected 21 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers as one of the nation’s best all-around midfielders.
ABOUT BUCHANAN
A Second Team All-ACC honoree, Buchanan racked up 71 draw controls, 34 points (16G, 18A), 37 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers as a two-way force for the Irish in 2019. Buchanan, a Second Team All-West/Midwest Region honoree last season, earned at least five draw controls in seven contests as a key component of Notre Dame’s dominant year in the circle. Buchanan also collected multiple ground balls and caused turnovers in four games as part of an Irish defensive unit that allowed an ACC best 8.05 goals per game.
ABOUT LYNCH
Lynch posted a career-high 53 goals and 62 points while starting all 19 contests for the Irish in 2019. The Huntington, New York, native collected a hat trick in 10 contests last season, including a six-goal effort on February 8 at Marquette. Lynch also collected 22 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers a season ago. In her career, Lynch has recorded 105 points (92G, 13A) in 51 career games.
ABOUT PEARSALL
Pearsall was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List a season ago while pacing the Irish with 25 caused turnovers. Pearsall’s mark of 1.39 caused turnovers per game ranked sixth in the ACC, and helped the Irish defense top the ACC and rank fourth in the nation with a mark of 8.05 goals allowed per game last season. In 49 career contests, Pearsall has caused 52 turnovers and collected 67 ground balls.
ABOUT ROE
Roe notched 31 draw controls, 21 caused turnovers and 19 ground balls as a junior for the Irish in 2019. The Denver, Colorado, native was part of an Irish defense unit that topped the ACC in goals allowed per game (8.05) and caused turnovers per game (11.26). Roe’s efforts in the circle also helped the Irish earn a draw control percentage of 63.6%, which was second in the nation. In 43 career contests, Roe has earned 54 ground balls and 50 caused turnovers.
