COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Notre Dame baseball team posted their third-consecutive run-rule win with an 11-0 (8 innings) victory over Tennessee Tech on Sunday afternoon.
Ty Uber was in control of the strike zone and the Golden Eagles’ bats on Sunday. The righty forced the Tennessee Tech batters into stranding a runner in the first and the third as the Golden Eagles managed just a walk and a single through three innings.
The defense backed up Uber in the bottom of the fourth with a 6-4-3 double play as the game remained scoreless heading into the fifth.
Jayce Lee led off the top of the fifth with a single, and Parker Brzustewicz went the other way with a single to put runners on the corners for the Irish. Jamie Zee got Notre Dame on the scoreboard with a single up the middle for the 1-0 Irish advantage.
Ty Uber had an efficient fifth on the mound by retiring the Golden Eagles in order. Kellan Klosterman and Eli Thurmond combined to retire the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the sixth.
Mason Barth led off the top of the seventh with a hard-hit single to left field for the Irish. Jamie Zee used a sacrifice bunt to advance Barth, and Andrew Graham drew a pinch-hit walk to put a pair on base. Drew Berkland laced a single up the middle. Noah Coy drove a single off the base of the fence to drive in Barth for the 2-0 lead, and Mark Quatrani had a sacrifice fly to center field for a 3-0 Irish advantage. Bino Watters lofted a three-run home run over the left field fence to double the lead for Notre Dame at 6-0.
Eli Thurmond retired the side in order in the bottom, and the Irish offense erupted yet again in the top of the eighth. Jamie Zee had a single, and Drew Berkland and Noah Coy each drew walks. Mark Quatrani sent everyone around the bases with a grand slam to left field for the 10-0 lead. Bino Watters then added his second homer of the game with a deep solo bomb to right-center field for an 11-0 advantage.
Dylan Singleton retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth to close out the run-rule victory for the Irish.
Bino Watters belted two home runs and drove in four, and Mark Quatrani added a grand slam with five RBIs in the win. Jayce Lee went 4-for-5 at the dish and scored a run. Jamie Zee had a pair of hits, drove in one and scored once. Noah Coy added two hits, two runs, two walks and an RBI. Mason Barth, Drew Berkland and Parker Brzustewicz each tallied a hit while Berkland scored twice and Barth scored a run.
Ty Uber earned the win after going 5.0 with a pair of strikeouts and allowing just two hits. Kellan Klosterman recorded a strikeout in 0.2 innings of work, and Eli Thurmond faced the minimum four batters in his 1.1 innings on the bump. Dylan Singleton struck out one and faced just three in 1.0 on the mound.
The Irish (6-3) are scheduled to host their home opener on Tuesday, March 3 against Eastern Michigan at 4:30 p.m. ET.
