Irish Open Up With Blue & Gold Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame track and field team opened up their 2023-24 indoor season at home as they hosted the Blue and Gold Invitational.

Michael Shoaf led the men’s side with two first place finishes as he won the weight throw with a throw of 20.15m and shot put with a 19.03m throw in the event. Freshman Jack Ahart made his debut as a top finisher in his event. Ahart ran a 33.99 in the 300 meter race and Robert Cozean won the 3,000 meter race after finishing with a time of 8:17.34.

Blake Kusky recorded a personal best after a throw of 19.27 in the weight throw. Zack Petko set a PB in both the weight throw and shot put as he recorded throws of 12.53m and 16.99, respectively. Running a time 34.71, Joey Zayszly set a PB in the 300 meter race. Just behind him, Jacob Ranker recorded a PB with a time of 34.79 and John Oleksak finished with his best time of 35.36 in the 300 meter. In the 3000 meter, Robert Cozean (8:17.34), Sam Rich (8:31.71) and Luke Schildmeyer (8:33.72) each finished with personal bests.

Michelle Quinn led the women’s team as she placed first and recorded personal bests in two events. Quinn won the 60 meter race and 300 meter with respective times of 7.48 and 39.06. Jadin O’Brien took home the first place finish in shot put with a personal best throw of 14.84m. Ashley Gordon also won her event as she crossed the finish line first with a time of 5:09.18 in the one mile race.

Ore Olusi recorded a personal best in the weight throw and shot put with respective throws of 13.63m and 13.95m, while Shiloh Corrales-Nelson also finished with a PB in weight throw (18.94m). Ashley Gordon (5:09.18) and Elizabeth Schmidt (5:09.44) finished with their best times in the mile and Juliana Keenan (1:01.07) ran her best time in the 400 meter. With their best times in the 60 meter race, Remy Finn ran a 7.81 and Caroline Isemann ran a 8.38.

Remy Finn (39.73), Reese Sanders (39.73), Bridget Lalonde (39.77), Molly Bennett (40.83), and Madison Schmidt (41.52) all recorded new personal bests in the 300 meter race. Molly Grant (10:03.40) and Claire Sievern (10:11.53) each recorded a PB in the 3,000 meter race.

The Irish are back at home on Saturday, January 20, as they host the Notre Dame Invitational.
