Malkowski named to All-Tournament Team

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Bobby Bayliss Invitational wrapped on Sunday after three long and tough days of competition. A combined 146 singles and doubles matches were played throughout the tournament, occurring at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. All-in-all, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish representatives racked up 20 wins, highlighted by a dominant doubles showing where they amassed a 5-1 overall record.

The weekend was highlighted by Jean-Marc Malkowski. The sophomore went 3-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles. As a result, Malkowski was named to the All-Tournament Team. The complete list of the All-Tournament Team can be found below.

FRIDAY

Graduate transfer Peter Conklin got the tournament started with a win in his first-ever match for the Irish. Juniors Connor Fu and Braeden Ho opened up their weekend with singles wins as did Freshman Yu Zhang who took a straight-set win in his collegiate debut. After a round of singles, three duos competed in doubles where the Irish had a 2-1 record.

SATURDAY

After rain delayed the start on Saturday, the format was changed to just two rounds of singles. Sophomore Jean-Marc Malkowski led the way winning both of his matches against opponents from Northwestern and Michigan State. Freshman Brian Bilsey tallied his first collegiate victory with a singles win over his Wisconsin opponent. Other wins on the day came from a trio of juniors in Matt Halpin, Connor Fu and Braeden Ho.

SUNDAY

The Irish started the final day by going 3-0 in doubles. The team of Che and Conklin jumped out to a fast 6-0 win over Michigan State. Soon after, the freshmen pair of Zhang and Bilsey closed out a 6-1 win over WMU.

In singles, Freshman Jamie Corsillo picked up his first collegiate win over Bilinovich of Cleveland. Bilsey also picked up another singles win to go with his doubles victory from the morning to go 2-0 on the final day. Ho, Fu and Malkowski all won their singles to finish the weekend 3-1 in singles.
