Irish Punch Ticket to Second Playoff Berth in Three Seasons

 

NOTRE DAME BOWL HISTORY 

NOTRE DAME, Indiana —For the second time in three seasons, Notre Dame has earned a slot in the College Football Playoff. The No. 4 Irish (10-1) have been selected to play in the Rose Bowl Game presented by Capital One and will take on No. 1 Alabama (11-0) in the CFP Semifinal. 

This season, the Rose Bowl game will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Friday, January 1, 2021 at 4 p.m. ET. The game will be aired on ESPN. This season marks the first time Notre Dame has played in the Rose Bowl since 1925 vs. Stanford (27-10 victory).

The 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship Game is set for January 11 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. 

The Irish are 2-1^ against Alabama in bowl games (1973 Sugar Bowl, 1974 Orange Bowl, 2012 BCS National Championship), and 5-2^ all-time against the Crimson Tide. 

For Notre Dame, it is the 39th postseason bowl appearance (19-19^ record) after the University declined to participate in bowl games from 1925-68. It marks the tenth season (out of 11) under Dick Corbett Head Football Coach Brian Kelly the Irish have played in the postseason – following appearances in the 2010 Sun Bowl, the 2011 Champs Sports Bowl, the 2013 BCS National Championship (2012 season), the 2013 Pinstripe Bowl, the 2014 Music City Bowl, 2015 Fiesta Bowl, 2018 Citrus Bowl (2017 season), 2018 College Football playoff Semifinal (Cotton Bowl) and the 2019 Camping World Bowl. Under Kelly, the Irish are 5-4 in bowl appearances.
