NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Notre Dame women’s lacrosse freshman class has been ranked second-best by Inside Lacrosse, it was announced Saturday morning (Sept. 21).
The Irish landed the top two recruits in the Class of 2019, with midfielder Kasey Choma named the nation’s top prospect and attacker Madison Ahern coming in at number two.
In addition, attacker Jackie Wolak was named the nation’s 15th best prospect while attackers Jane McAvoy and Ellie Mooney were also named to Inside Lacrosse’s Watchlist as Top 100 incoming freshmen.
“This is such an exciting time for the Notre Dame Women’s Lacrosse Program,” said Irish head coach Christine Halfpenny. “Congratulations to this freshman class for earning this recognition. Our coaching staff and team have been waiting to welcome this group of students to campus for quite some time.”
As a whole, the Irish freshman class features four midfielders and three attackers that hail from four different states, and led their high school programs to a combined seven state championships.
“We’re already three weeks into the fall and it is very obvious that each student made the perfect choice in committing to Notre Dame to be a part of something special,” said Halfpenny. “They are transitioning smoothly to the Notre Dame community, and making impacts all over the field in our fall training.”
“We love how each student-athlete is unique in what they bring to the program both on-and-off the field. We are excited to continue to recruit players from multiple states that are not only the best of the best from all over the country, but most importantly the right cultural fit for the University of Notre Dame and our lacrosse program. We can’t wait to see their personal growth and how that will impact our entire team’s success this season.”

The Irish have made the NCAA Tournament in seven of the last eight seasons under head coach Christine Halfpenny.
The 14 victories the Irish earned last season tied the 2016 Irish squad for the third-most wins in a single season in program history.
