Notre Dame vs. Valparaiso Game Notes (PDF)

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame baseball team returns home to host Valparaiso for a midweek matchup on Tuesday, April 15 starting at 5:30 p.m. The Irish are also raising awareness of the Foundry Giants baseball team and Foundry Field.

THE MATCHUP

• Notre Dame has a 16-17 record ahead of the midweek contest.
• Valparaiso is 8-22 overall in the 2025 season.
• The two teams last met on April 16, 2024 with the Irish prevailing 7-6.
• The Irish lead the all-time series 88-21, and the teams first met in 1918.

LAST TIME OUT

• The Irish took the first game of a three-game ACC series at Boston College with a 2-0 win before falling 6-5 and 4-3 in games two and three.
• Jack Radel and Tobey McDonough earned the combined shutout effort on the hill in the series opener. Radel went 6.1 innings with a strikeout while scattering five singles on his way to the victory. McDonough earned his fifth save of the year after going 2.2 with three strikeouts.
• The Irish took a lead in the first inning but fell in a 6-5 final on Friday night in a doubleheader against the Eagles. Rory Fox struck out two in 4.1 innings in a no-decision effort. Connor Hincks went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
• Notre Dame fell in a 4-3 final in the rubber match of the ACC series. Hincks continued a hot weekend at-bat with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate. Bino Watters added a pair of hits in the game.

2025 CAPTAINS

The 2025 Irish baseball team will look to four captains to help guide the way this spring. John P. and Catherine Murphy Head Baseball Coach Shawn Stiffler announced graduate students OF Brady Gumpf and RHP Jackson Dennies, senior RHP Radek Birkholz, and junior INF Estevan Moreno as team captains for the season.

• Junior Estevan Moreno was 24th on the Top 50 shortstops list.
• Sophomore Carson Tinney was tabbed 47th on the Top 50 catchers listing.
• Graduate student Jared Zimbardo was 40th on the Top 100 outfielders report.
• Junior Rory Fox was 106th on the Top 150 starting pitchers list.
