DeCicco Duals

The Irish will square off with Lawrence, Ohio State and Northwestern on Saturday for this year’s DeCicco Duals. Over the course of the day, the men will face Ohio State and Lawrence twice while the women will face Northwestern and Ohio State twice. Heading into the meet, the Irish have fenced against all three schools at one point during the 2021 season.

The men and women both faced Ohio State at the Ohio State Invitational to begin the 2021 season back in February. The men defeated the Buckeyes 16-11 while the women secured a 20-7 victory over Ohio State.

The women’s squad faced both Northwestern and Lawrence at the Northwestern Invitational two weeks ago in Evanston. Facing both schools twice, the women finished the meet undefeated following 16-11 and 22-5 wins over Northwestern and 25-2 and 24-3 wins over Lawrence. Sophomore Jane Caulfield paced the Irish on the day with an 11-1 record. She was named ACC Women’s Fencer of the Week following her performance against Northwestern and Lawrence.

Last season when the Irish hosted the two-day DeCicco Duals, both the men’s and women’s squad finished the weekend with unblemished 14-0 records. It was a dominant performance as both the men and women had six matches where they did lose a single point. A number of fencers had strong weekends including Sienna Wilson (17-0), Victoria Tontcheva (17-1), Reghan Ward (17-1), Kara Linder (17-1), Solene Watson (15-0), Ben Scholl (17-0), Colin Campbell (14-0) and Hunter Candreva (14-1).

Up Next

The Irish will stay home and get set for a tri-dual meet next weekend. Notre Dame will welcome Lawrence and Wayne State to the Castellan Family Fencing Center on Saturday, March 13. The Irish will fence both squads twice over the course of the day. That meet will also not be open to the general public.
