Irish Shutout Boston College In Road Win, 1-0

NEWTON, Mass. — Notre Dame went on the road and defeated Boston College by a score of 1-0 on Friday evening at Newton Field. With the win the Fighting Irish improve to 8-4-4 on the season and 3-2-2.

Wyatt Lewis couldn’t have picked a better time to score his first goal of the season, as he produced the match winner in the 75th minute.

Blake Kelly earned his fifth clean sheet in goal this season, making three saves in the shutout win. Three of the five clean sheets have come in ACC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The opening 45 minutes was a defensive affair, as each team registered three shots in the first half and the match was scoreless at the halftime intermission.

Notre Dame’s best attacking opportunity came in the 32nd minute. Nolan Spicer chipped a cross into the box in the second phase of a corner and the ball fell to Ren Sylvester, who put his effort just wide of the post.

Right before the break Notre Dame’s Blake Kelly made a big save off a corner to keep the match level at 0-0.

Boston College created a number of opportunities early in the second half but the Irish defense stood firm thanks to a number of key saves from Kelly.

Notre Dame scored the breakthrough goal in the 75th minute. Wyatt Lewis cut in from the right flank and fired a shot that took a deflection on its way to the back of the net to put the Irish on top 1-0.

The Irish defense dug in and saw out the rest of the match, earning their third clean sheet in ACC play with the final score being 1-0.
