Interactive 2016 Division I Women’s Soccer Championship Bracket
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s soccer team will make its 24th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship, earning a No. 2 seed Monday when the field of 64 was announced by the Division I Women’s Soccer Committee.
The No. 6 Irish (13-3-4), who won a share of the regular-season Atlantic Coast Conference title, will host Ohio Valley Conference Champion SIU-Edwardsville (10-7-4) at 7 p.m. ET Friday at Alumni Stadium. Notre Dame would also host second- and third-round matches should the Irish advance. On the other side of the region bracket is No. 3 seed Duke, which finished third in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season.
“We don’t read too much into the bracket,” head coach Theresa Romagnolo said. “Once you get to NCAA tournament time, everyone’s a quality team. The ACC Championship was a great trial run for the NCAA tournament. You’ve got to show up and give your best game at every opportunity that you have.”
The Irish are one of seven ACC teams to earn NCAA berths. Fellow No. 2 seed North Carolina (13-3-4), No. 3 seeds Clemson (13-4-3), Duke (12-4-3), Florida State (13-3-4) and Virginia (13-4-2) and unseeded NC State (10-8-1) round out the ACC representation.
The 2016 NCAA Women’s College Cup will be held December 2 and 4 at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, California, with the West Coast Conference and San Jose Sports Authority serving as co-hosts. Both semifinal matches and championship match will broadcast live on ESPNU.
