CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Notre Dame Fencing swept both ACC Fencers of the Week following a successful showing at the DeCicco Duals this past weekend, the conference announced. Senior Josephina Conway and Freshman Kruz Schembri both earned weekly conference honors.
It’s the third time this season that the Irish have earned fencer of the week honors. Last week, Lola Possick took home her first career accolade after an impressive showing at the St. John’s Super Cup.
Conway, a local product from nearby Mishawaka, Indiana, was a perfect 12-0 last weekend. The senior was 9-0 in Foil and 3-0 in Sabre, helped leading the women’s team to a perfect 8-0 weekend overall.
Schembri, in his first collegiate season from Haimes City, Florida, posted a spectacular 18-0 individual record at Epee over the two-day DeCicco Duals last weekend, helping the Irish dominate fellow division one teams Detroit Mercy, Cleveland State and Lawrence.
Notre Dame returns to the strips this weekend to host the Michael DeCicco Duals on Saturday, January 24th and Sunday, January 25th at the Castellan Family Fencing Center inside the North Dome at the Joyce Center. Competition begins Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
