Tallahassee, Fl. — Notre Dame took down Florida State on Wednesday evening in a 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-23) straight set fashion. Caroline Meuth hit .375 with 11 kills to help the Irish to their victory.
Zoe Nunez dished out 33 assists in the matchup. Aubrey Hamilton recorded 13 kills and teammates Lauren Wenzel and Phyona Schrader each added six.
The Irish tallied eight total service aces coming from Hamilton (2), Nancy Kane (2), Meuth (1), Schrader (1), Nunez (1), and Sydeny Bent (1).
Nunez led the Irish with 13 digs while Hattie Monson recorded 11 and Schrader tallied 12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
Notre Dame was powered by five service aces all in the first set. Two from Aubrey Hamilton and one from both Caroline Meuth and Nancy Kane.
The set was close as the teams traded points and neither team had a comfortable lead until the Irish went on a 5-1 run giving them a 19-15 lead. The Irish would keep their lead and take the set powered by kills from Meuth, Hamilton, and Schrader.
Second Set
The Irish continued their lead into the second set as they opened taking three of the first four points. Two more service aces would come from Kane and Nunez for a Notre Dame 5-2 lead.
Kills from Schrader and Hamilton would keep Notre Dame in the lead at 16-13. Meuth and Wenzel would account for two more kills, causing Florida State to take a timeout. Five more points for the Irish, with kills from Hamilton and Wenzel, would give Notre Dame the second set 25-22.
Third Set
An immediate 3-0 run with kills from Meuth, Hamilton, and Miller would put the Irish in the lead for the third set. After each team traded points early in the set, the Seminoles would take the lead at 9-7.
A kill from Meuth would tie the stanza at 14. Another service ace for the Irish came about from Bent giving the Irish a 17-15 lead. The set continued to be close until a 4-1 run from the Irish secured their win taking the final set 25-23.
