ATLANTA — The 28th-ranked University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team dropped its fourth straight match Saturday, falling to No. 6 and Atlantic Coast Conference leader Georgia Tech 7-0 at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
How It Happened
Georgia Tech (22-2, 12-0 ACC) won the doubles point, taking quick 6-2 decisions on Courts 1 and 2. Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones defeated seniors Mary Closs and Monica Robinson and 20th-ranked Rasheeda McAdoo and Johnnise Renaud upended junior duo Brooke Broda and Allison Miller.
The Yellow Jackets won the first set on each of the six singles courts, setting up a clear path to clinch the match at 4-0. Nami Otsuka started things off with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Closs at No. 5, while 93rd-ranked Renaud downed Broda 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2. No. 81 Hourigan clinched the match with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Miller at the No. 3 spot.
The Irish (16-7, 7-6 ACC) forced third sets on the remaining three courts, but could not complete comebacks on any of them.
Georgia Tech extended the lead to 5-0 as No. 42 McAdoo defeated No. 72 Robinson 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 on Court 1. Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer then held off Irish sophomore Rachel Chong in a 6-3, 1-6, 7-6
decision on Court 6. Jones wrapped up the sweep with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 decision over freshman Zoe Spence on Court 4.
Up Next
The Irish will close out the regular season at Clemson at noon ET next Sunday, April 23, in Clemson, South Carolina.

Joanne Norell, athletics communications assistant director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2014 and coordinates communications efforts for the Notre Dame women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and fencing programs. Norell is a 2011 graduate of Purdue University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication, and earned her master’s degree in sports industry management from Georgetown University in 2013.
