DURHAM, NC. – The Irish have completed their third day of the 2023 NCAA Championships in Durham, North Carolina at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The women’s team took the strips for the first time for their chance to win individual titles.
The Irish completed the first three rounds of women’s épée, foil, and sabre. Following Sunday’s fourth and fifth rounds, the top four finishers will advance to the afternoon’s semifinals. At the conclusion of the women’s championship bouts in each weapon, a team champion will be crowned.
Notre Dame finished the day on top of the team standings with a total of 159 points. They hold a 13-point lead over second-place Princeton. In third place sits Columbia with 130 points.
Women’s Epee
Kaylin Hsieh and Eszter Muhari made an immediate impact on their first day fencing. Hsieh and Muhari are both sitting in the top two slots for the weapon group after three rounds. Both have collected thirteen victories out of fifteen bouts.
Hsieh was able to put together six straight wins through the first three rounds today. Muhari came out strong when she won nine straight bouts to start her day. Muhari and Hsieh will return to the strip tomorrow for the final two rounds of round-robin competition, and to fence for a spot in the semifinals.

Women’s Foil
Amita Berthier started strong right out of the gate as she sits in second place in the weapon group after three rounds. She has collected twelve wins out of fifteen bouts with a +33 indicator. Berthier finished the day strong as her last four bouts were straight victories.

Rebeca Candescu sits in eleventh place after three rounds. She tallied eight victories today with a +4 indicator. She put together three straight bout victories for an eventual eight wins.

Women’s Sabre
The sabre squad of Kara Linder and Atara Greenbaum sit in seventh and eleventh place after three rounds. Linder tallied eleven wins on the day to accumulate a +13 indicator. Greenbaum won eight bouts after three rounds. Both will return to the strip tomorrow to fence for a place in the semifinals.
