Irish Tied For Sixth At The Westbrook Invitational

PEORIA, Ariz.
— The Notre Dame women’s golf team played the opening two rounds of the 2018 Westbrook Spring Invitational on Sunday, shooting a 288 in the first round and following with a 280 in the second round to stand in a tie for sixth at eight-under par (288-280=568).

After firing an opening round 70, junior Emma Albrecht followed with a five-under par 67 to move into sole possession of fourth place on the leaderboard (71-67=138) with one round remaining at the Vistas Course at the Westbrook Village Golf Club.

On the team leaderboard, the Irish are tied with Oregon State and trail only Nebraska (-20), Oklahoma (-18), Ohio State (-17), Wisconsin (-11) and Indiana (-10).

On the individual leaderboard, Albrecht is three strokes behind Ohio State’s Jaclyn Lee (-11). Kaitlin Milligan (-14) of Oklahoma is leading the field, while Nebraska’s Kate Smith (-13) is in second.

The final 18 holes of play will take place on Monday, Feb. 26 and live scoring will be available via Birdiefire.

LEADING THE IRISH

Notre Dame got contributions from the entire lineup on Sunday and as a team in the second round, the Irish combined for 17 birdies as well as 63 pars.

Albrecht’s opening round included three birdies, 14 pars and a bogey while her afternoon 67 consisted of five birdies and 13 pars. Albrecht’s second round 67 was her fifth round in the 60’s this season.

Juniors Maddie Rose Hamilton and Isabella DiLisio turned in even par 72’s, which tied for Notre Dame’s second lowest rounds of the morning.

In the afternoon, freshman Abby Heck shot a three-under par 69 to tie for her lowest round of the season, while sophomore Mia Ayer shot a one-under par 71 to tie for her lowest round of the season.

UP NEXT

After playing in the University of Wisconsin’s Westbrook Spring Invitational, the Fighting Irish will play host to the 2018 Clover Cup on March 16-18 at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.
