NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team will go up against a familiar face in its exhibition game against Team USA, as 2016 alum Matt Kavanagh will suit up for the Red, White and Blue. The former Irish standout is one of six players selected for the Team USA attack.
The Irish will face Team USA at the annual Team USA Spring Premiere in Bradenton, Florida. The game is set for 1 p.m. ET Sunday, Jan. 15 at IMG Academy.
Kavanagh completed his prolific Notre Dame career this past spring, graduating as a four-time USILA All-American. The Rockville Centre, New York native finished his career with the second most points in program history with 223 points (120 goals, 103 assists). Kavanagh also ranks in the top 10 in the Notre Dame record books in points in a season (first – 75 points), assists in a season (first – 33), career goals (third – 120) and career assists (third – 103).
During his four seasons with the Irish, Kavanagh led the team to the 2014 NCAA Championship game, the 2015 Final Four and the NCAA quarterfinals in 2013 and 2016. Notre Dame also claimed two ACC regular season titles and the 2014 ACC Tournament Championship.
After graduation, Kavanagh joined Major League Lacrosse’s Denver Outlaws and made an immediate impact. The Outlaws reached the MLL championship and won by a score of 19-18 to take the title. Kavanagh contributed three goals and two assists in the title game as his squad rebounded from a seven-goal halftime deficit to score the game-winner with less than two minutes remaining in the game.
