ATLANTA, Ga. — The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s sprinters and field athletes completed the first day of competition Friday at the Georgia Tech Invitational at George C Griffin Track in Atlanta.

Jade and Kaila Barber posted a pair of top three finishes in the 100-meter hurdles preliminaries and semifinals. The pair finished second and third, respectively, in the preliminary race, while Jade Barber placed first in the semifinal and Kaila Barber once again took third.

In the field, Emily Morris claimed the crown in the shot put, notching her second-best throw of the season. For the men, freshman Greg Bombara placed third in the javelin (52.82 meters), his third top-three finish of the season. In the hammer throw, Dominick Padovano finished fourth with a toss of 52.29 meters.

Action resumes at 11 a.m. EDT on Saturday with field events, with running events to pick back up at 1 p.m. EDT.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The University of Notre Dame track & field program saw a pair of multi-event athletes get off to strong starts at the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field at the University of Virginia.

Carly Loeffel sits in fifth place in the heptathlon (3240 points) after four events on Friday, highlighted by a second-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles (14.25) and a fourth-place hop in the high jump (1.66m).

On the men’s side, Brent Swanberg is in eighth place (3538 points) halfway through the decathlon, with a third-place toss in the shot put (13.07m) accentuating the day.

Also on Friday, Sydni Meunier placed sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Danielle Aragon came in seventh in the 800 meters.
