SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Notre Dame swimming and diving closed out the regular season on their home pool deck this weekend, as the Irish hosted Illinois, Indiana State and Akron for the annual Tim Welsh Classic.

The women came out on top in the meet with 1114.5 points. Illinois took second (886), Akron finished third (824), and Indiana State finished with 644.5 points. The Notre Dame men were the only competitors on their side, so the meet was not scored.

WOMEN’S RECAP

Sophomores Carli Cronk and Hollie Widdows continue to be top contributors for the Irish. Cronk won the 400 IM (4:08.80) and 200 fly (1:55.28), while Widdows took first in the 100 fly (52.95) and 100 free (48.72). Widdows went a best time in the 100 fly, a mark that ranks eighth in program history.

Notre Dame swept the breaststroke events, as senior Mary Codevilla won the 100 breast (1:01.55) and freshman Gracie Lanning won the 200 breast (2:13.12). Codevilla’s 100 breast time is her new best time since arriving at Notre Dame.

In the diving well, Calie Brady won the 3-meter with a score of 307.70, while freshman Ellie Lee won the first event of her Irish career with a score of 312.25 in the 1-meter.

MEN’S RECAP

The Irish men used the weekend as a measuring stick heading into the postseason and had several notable swims, including a few new entries into the all-time top 10.

Shane Eckler’s winning 100 fly time of 46.23 now ranks ninth in school history, and Marcus Reyes-Gentry’s 20.82 lead off leg of the 200 medley relay broke his previous school record of 20.92.

Senior Tommy Janton, who holds the school records in the 100 and 200 back, posted his best 200 back of the season by a wide margin, finishing with a time of 1:40.64.

Up next, Notre Dame will begin the championship season with the Ohio State Winter Invite from Feb. 13-15 before heading to the ACC Championships in Atlanta from Feb. 15-21.
