NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s soccer team (11-1-1, 5-0-0) extended its winning streak to seven games on Thursday night after handing Louisville (7-3-1, 3-2-0) a 3-0 defeat inside Alumni Stadium. With the victory, the Irish remain undefeated in ACC play with a 5-0-0 record.

Notre Dame freshmen continue to shine bright, now having scored six of the team’s last seven goals, including five straight. Korbin Albert tallied her second brace of the season tonight, followed by a goal from Sophia Fisher, all in the first half.

How It Happened

If you blinked you missed the first Irish goal of the evening as Albert found the back of the net in 37 seconds. The goal was the third quickest in program history, with the top two spots being 27 seconds (2001) and 16 seconds (2008).

Sammi Fisher took the ball down the middle of the field and connected with Albert who delivered a dart to the lower right corner.

Then the Fisher to Albert connection struck again in the 10th minute. Fisher from the Cardinals baseline spotted an open Albert around the penalty marker, who then notched goal number seven on the year. Furthermore, Fisher achieved assists two and three on the season.

Later, Sophia Fisher got subbed into the game in the 37th minute and didn’t waste much time, securing her goal in the 41st minute. Kiki Van Zanten split the defense with a perfect through ball as Fisher took a few dribbles into the box and then buried it past the keeper for goal number three on the year. It was Van Zanten’s first assist this season

On the defensive end of the field, the Irish backline continued to be a brick wall, not allowing a Louisville shot until the 63rd minute. All-in-all, the Cardinals mustered only four shots with just one on goal.

Up Next

The Irish remain at home for a Sunday afternoon clash with the Clemson Tigers. First touch inside Alumni will be 3:06 p.m. ET, airing live on regional sports networks (Marquee Network locally).
