WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team shot a 303 in the final round at the Landfall Tradition tournament to finish in seventh place. Freshman Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton HS) led the Irish, as she carded her second consecutive plus-one 73 at the 6,117-yard Jack Nicklaus Pines Course of the Country Club of Landfall to finish in a tie for 12th place.
For the tournament, Huffer posted a 228 score. Her third round included a birdie on hole one, giving her four birdies on the weekend as well as 38 pars.
Senior captain Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute) carded Notre Dame’s second-lowest score on the day, as she fired a plus-three 75. She finished in a tie for 50th place with a plus-27 mark (243).
So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Prep) shot a plus-five 77 on the final day to record a plus-13 (229) for the tournament. Park, who had five birdies in the tournament, finished in 14th, one shot back of Huffer.
Junior Annie Brophy (Spoakne, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) also scored for the Irish, as she shot a plus-six (78), giving her a plus-22 (238) mark for the tournament. Sophomore Katie Conway (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) finished at plus-20 (236) after shooting a plus-seven 79 in the final round.
Wake Forest won the 12-team tournament for the second consecutive season, posting a plus-16 (880) score. Ohio State finished 28 shots back (908) of the Demon Deacons to secure second. On the individual leaderboard, Delores White of Wake Forest took medalist honors with a plus-two mark for the tournament.
Notre Dame takes a three-month break, as the Irish do not play again until February 9, 2009 at Ohio State’s Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. The tournament will be played at the Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, California.
