GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Irish women’s golf team shot a 309 (21 over-par) for the second consecutive day on the Champions Course, moving into a tie for tenth place at the 2009 Bryan National Collegiate. Through two rounds of play, Notre Dame has a score of plus-42 (618). Freshman Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton HS) carded a five-over par 77 to lead the Irish, tying for a 13th-place through two rounds of play (152).
The Irish are tied with Michigan State and the College of Charleston in tenth. The three teams sit 26 stokes behind leader LSU (+16/592). On the individual leader-board, Nanette Hill of Wake Forest leads the way with a minus-one mark (143).
Huffer’s second day score score of 77 was equaled by teammates Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute) and Annie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep). Huffer’s second round included 10 pars and birdies on the third and sixth. Also in second round action, Maunu recorded nine pars while carding birdies at the second and 18th. For the second consecutive day, Brophy birdied two of the course’s par fives while carding pars at the other two. The junior now carries a minus-four mark on the tournament’s eight par-fives.
Sophomore Katie Conway (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) posted a plus-six 78 to also score for the Irish. Her second round total, which was three shots better than her first round total of 81, included 12 pars.
Rounding out the Irish contingent, sophomore So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Prep) carded a seven-over par mark of 79. She notched a team-high 13 pars.
The Irish will look to finish their regular season with a Sunday charge as the Bryan national Collegiate concludes tomorrow, April 5. Play begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
