WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team took 28 strokes off of their first round score to post a plus-10 (298) in second round action at the 2008 Landfall Tradition tournament, hosted by UNC Wilmington. Sophomore So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Prep) and freshman Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton HS) led the Irish, as both carded plus-one 73’s at the 6,117-yard Jack Nicklaus Pines Course of the Country Club of Landfall. The Irish are now in sixth place.
After two rounds of play, Park is tied for 14th place with a plus-eight mark (152). Her second round included three birdies on the front-nine. At plus-11, Huffer is tied for 21st place (155), as she recorded one-under scores on 17 and 18.
Sophomore Katie Conway (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) shot a plus-three 75 in the second round. For the tournament she has shot a plus-13 (157), putting her in a tie for 28th.
Junior Annie Brophy (Spoakne, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) also scored for the Irish, as she shot a plus-five (77), giving her a plus-16 (160) mark for the tournament. Senior captain Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute) knocked 10 strokes off of her first round score to card a plus-seven in the second round (79). She has a plus-24 mark after two days of play.
Wake Forest, the defending champions at the event, lead the field with a plus-nine mark. North Carolina sits in second, 23 strokes adrift of the Demon Deacons. With a plus-two mark, Cheyenne Woods of Wake Forest is first on the individual leaderboard.
The final round of play will begin Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at the Pines Course. Live hole-by-hole scoring of the Landfall Tradition is available through Golfstat.
