Baltimore, Md. – The Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team has been ranked 12th in Lacrosse magazine’s preseason poll for the upcoming 2008 spring season.
Lacrosse magazine is the flagship publication of US Lacrosse, a 225,000-member, non-profit organization that serves as the sport’s national governing body. The rankings appear below and in the January issue of Lacrosse magazine. Expanded college previews will run in both the February and March issues.
Six teams on the 2008 schedule are ranked in Lacrosse Magazine’s poll led by three-time defending national champion, Northwestern, as the Wildcats are ranked No. 1 to start the new campaign. Also on the Notre Dame schedule this season are No. 3 Duke, No. 5 Syracuse, No. 11 Georgetown, No. 13 Vanderbilt and No. 19 Rutgers.
The Irish are coming off a season that saw them finish 11-6 overall with a 3-2 record in the BIG EAST, good for fourth place and a berth in the first-ever BIG EAST Tournament. The BIG EAST opens the 2008 season with four teams ranked in the top 20 with Syracuse, Georgetown, Notre Dame and Rutgers recognized in the preseason poll.
Head coach Tracy Coyne and her Irish squad opens the 2008 season on Friday, February 15 when the Irish play host to Canisius in a 5:00 p.m. game at the Loftus Sports Center.
Notre Dame will play host to the BIG EAST Tournament the weekend of April 25-27, 2008.
