Bloomington, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team sent six individuals to the Hoosier Classic this past weekend and the Irish walked away with the doubles flight championship, while three others reached the finals of their singles flight.

The freshman duo of Katie Potts and Cosmina Ciobanu went 4-0 on the weekend. They out-lasted Martina Banikova and Valeriya Makarycheva of Mississippi State, 9-7, in the Flight #1 final. Potts and Ciobanu defeated Kunigunda Dorn and Yuliana Svistun of Kansas (8-3), Viviana Yrueta and Tereza Kudlackova of Kansas State (8-5) and Darya Ivanov and Naoko Ueshima of Georgia (8-4) along the way.

Ciobanu is a perfect 7-0 in doubles action, 4-0 with Potts and 3-0 with freshman Kali Krisik. Potts is also a perfect 7-0, 4-0 with Ciobanu and 3-0 with freshman Colleen Rielley.

Rielley and Krisik opened the flight with an 8-6 victory over Elizaveta Avdeeva and Edina Horvath of Kansas, but dropped their quarterfinal match to Laura McGaffigan and Brianna Williams of Indiana, 9-7. The duo rebounded from the defeat and captured fifth place with back-to-back 8-2 victories over Ashley Murdock and Tiffany Tucker of LSU and Yrueta and Kudlackova of Kansas State.

Rielley advanced to the Flight A finals with victories over Renee Joseph of Mississippi State, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (6) and Anna Lask of Murray State, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (6). She fell short of the flight title after dropping her championship match to Yruveta of Kansas State, 6-1, 7-5. Rielley is now 6-1 on the season.

Potts claimed third place in Flight B. She opened action with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Anastasiya Dubova of LSU, but dropped her semifinal match to Ivanov of Georgia, 7-6 (3), 6-2. She did defeat Cecile Perton of Indiana, 6-4, 6-0 in her third place consolation match. Potts is now 4-2 on the season.

Ciobanu and Krisik each moved into the Flight C final, but did not face one another for the title. Ciobanu posted consecutive straight-set victories over Ueshima of Georgia (6-2, 6-1) and Lindsey Stuckey of Indiana (6-3, 6-3). Ciobanu capped her singles play with another straight-set triumph over Horvath of Kansas, 6-0, 6-1. Krisik survived a pair of three-set matches to reach the final. She got past Elna de Villiers of Mississippi State, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (5) and Horvath of Kansas, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (6). She then closed her flight play with a straight-set, 6-2, 6-3 win over Stuckey of Indiana. Ciobanu is now 5-1, while Krisik is 4-0.

Junior Bailey Louderback and freshman Kellie O’Flynn went 0-3 in a doubles round robin. They dropped matches to Ottosen and Alvarez of Murray State, 8-3, Prochazkova and Vieira of Kansas State, 8-0, and Bochenek and McGahee of Murray State, 8-4. Louderback and O’Flynn each went 0-3 in singles as well.
