BATON ROUGE, La. — The University of Notre Dame women’s golf team shot a 22-over-par 310 at the LSU Tiger Classic on Sunday, finishing the weekend with a total score of 914 (312-292-310) to wrap up an eighth-place finish and its highest in five trips to the LSU Tiger Classic at the par-72 University Club.
Sixth-ranked LSU took the team title, firing a 15-over-par 879 to best second-place and 11th-ranked Mississippi State by five strokes (884). The 30th-ranked Irish finished ahead of No. 21 UCF (T-9th, 917) and within seven shots of the top five, which included No. 10 Wake Forest (5th, 907).
The Irish have finished within the top 10 in every tournament so far this year.
Senior Ashley Armstrong (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) had the highest finish for the Irish, placing 18th (225-80-69-76) while finishing at 10-over-par for the tournament. Junior Talia Campbell (Dallas, Texas/Ursuline Academy) fired a six-over-par 78 to finish in a two-way tie for 27th (229-77-74-78), and senior Kelli Oride (Lihue, Hawaii/Kauai) finished in a six-way tie for 30th after totaling a 15-over-par 231 (77-74-80).
Sophomore Jordan Ferreira nearly replicated Saturday’s performance adding just one stroke to finish with a 16-over-par 232 (81-75-76) and moved from 44th into an eight-way tie for 36th. Freshman Kari Bellville (Granger, Ind./Penn) rounded out the Irish scoring, tying for 73rd place with a 27-over 243 (78-83-82).
LSU’s Elise Bradley snagged the individual title, parring the final round to finish at a two-under par 214 (74-68-72) and defeating Mississippi Stat’s Rica Tse (76-69-69) in a tiebreaker.
The Irish return to action next Friday through Sunday at the Bryan National Collegiate at Bryan Park Golf Course in Greensboro, North Carolina.
